Description
I’m an independent scholar in Auckland for the next 5.5 months (roughly May 1 through October 13), then onward to Cornwall. I’m working on a long-form research project that connects 18th-century English literature to current questions in AI ethics — the kind of work that needs a quiet room and a desk and time to think. I’ve been staying with my child, who’s doing graduate work at the University of Auckland, while I find somewhere more permanent for the rest of my time here. I’m quiet, I keep to myself when I’m working, I’m careful with other people’s homes. I don’t entertain, I don’t have visitors staying over. I’d be using the space for research and reading and the occasional bit of hand-quilting (my long-term travel project). I’m a working scholar, not a wanderer — settled in my habits, easy to live with. I also like animals — happy to be a pet sitter.
